I Don't Need A Photograph

montrealianIt's a bajillion degrees below zero in Minnesota today, and - okay, okay, it's 8 degrees, but ... I just wasn't ready for it, that's all. I much prefer being freezing to soggy heat and humidity, but now it's freezing and dark at 4:30 p.m. Suddenly, I want my spring back. Add to this a weeklong fatigue that I can't shake, a house full of cat hair and impending Christmas shopping, and I'm ready for the poppiest music I can find.

I know I'm breaking no ground by posting this band, and since they're on the new OC comp (after going strong for eight years so far) they certainly don't need our help, but God bless Of Montreal.

Of Montreal - Requiem for O.M.M.2.

Their new record The Sunlandic Twins is a great, great thing; it's shiny and bouncy and full of confetti and balloons. This song is actually the track from Music From the OC, Mix 5, and it's also been posted on their website (along with this sweet cover of the Shins' Know Your Onion!).
I love that dense, garage rock sound, especially when it's thrown in with some unexpected twists, production-wise. My favorite track from this record is definitely "The Party's Crashing Us", which is one of the best contenders in this otherwise-getting-tired-dance-post-punk-whatever-the-fuck trend.

I really needed Of Montreal this week, and I'm glad they were there. Now I just have to work with them on getting Sandy Cohen to wear a MFR t-shirt in a dramatic scene. Oh, it's gonna happen. Mark my words. (As long as we don't have to post a song from his album in return. Yikes!)

But I digress. Be a pal and buy The Sunlandic Twins from the fine people at Insound. And you can find Music From the OC, Mix 5 here. Just pretend you're not too cool to buy it. It's pretty decent.
