If You Had Been Told
Lavender Diamond - You Broke My Heart.
Today on my commute, I got stuck in construction on Washington Blvd, and then, just as I was about to break free, the car in front of was in an accident. So that was awesome. But I knew everything would be okay after I put on the Lavender Diamond record. I mean, how can you not love Becky Stark's voice? And her unwavering commitment to the lines "You Broke My Heart." It's a beautiful song, and the piano keeps building, the arrangement becomes more mesmerising with each passing measure.
Becky Stark has been doing the solo thing in LA for awhile now, and now performs with a band as Lavender Diamond. It's crazy neo-hippie stuff, that also borders on the wildly experimental. It's pretty hard to describe (this is why I'm not a critic), but suffice it to say, it's beautiful.
At any rate, they've released a delicate little EP with four songs on it. It's a neat little package, and I recommend getting it. You can buy it direct from the band. They also play live here in the southland quite a bit. The next chance to see them will be at the smell with Calvin Johnson on December 4th. I'm sure it'll be a great little show.
