Who was it?

Who Is It? (Shooting Stars & Asteroids Mix)

Rephlex, the label run by Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) known for their twisted take on electronic music (they like to call it "brain dance" music), has been known to step correct on the weirdness front, and this particular record is no exception.

A simple (though gorgeous) 12" marked with a question mark on one side and "who is it" on the other, made of half black half clear vinyl (its a bit of a trip watching it on the turntable), and marked "www.indian.co.uk" and "www.bogdanraczynski.com" in the run-out grooves.

Yes, it is Björk's song "Who Is It?" as mixed by Bogdan Raczynski - apparently this has been floating about on the white-label circuit for a few years, because the original version was written and recorded in 2001 with Bogdan. It was later re-recorded with Matmos and Rahzel, and was released on her Medúlla album. This version is classic Bogdan, all scattershot drum patterns and fizzling bass stabs, with the sweet angel that is Björk's vocals dancing around them.

Anyway, this version is finally available for the rest of us - buy it here (US).
