Girl I Do the Best I Can

Mcalmont & Butler
Mcalmont & Butler - Different Strokes.

Sometimes songs come completely out of nowhere. I mean, come the fuck on -- who thought that a dude who sang backup for Morrissey (David McAlmont) and the guitarist from Suede (Bernard Butler) would come together to cut some singles in '96, have a huge fued in the papers, and then reform to make this album in 2002? This is kind of ridiculous when you think about it. When I first heard this song I had absolutely no idea it was from 3 years ago. McAlmont's voice is like something straight out of the Impressions... just a perfect soul voice. Only Butler's crazy-ass guitar solos give a hint that something new is afoot.

But that bounce is undeniable. It's just a happy-ass stomp of a song. And some days we have bad days, and we need happy-ass songs about being a man like this, and standing your ground, and acceptance. Shit is ridiculous. Part of me thinks this belongs in the "guilty pleasure" closet, but that would be stupid and i don't play that game. This is just straight up sunshine, and who couldn't use some of that? While maybe not quite as good as their first song --Yes -- this is still a great album cut.

Anyway, I really needed this tonight, and I thought I'd share it with you. I hope you enjoy it. Believe it or not, these guys are still doing their thing, and even a keep a blog on their site. Also, adding to my suspicion that I'm simply an idiot and missed this the fiirst time around, you can buy this album in lots of places. You can even buy it at insound!

Yes:- I was quite keen on hearing this. There was also 'the sound of...'

Isn't it funny how you can think about a band who hasn't been around for a while quite intensely, and then, lo-and-behold, a new album comes out

That must be subliminal marketing!!
