I'm 10,000 leagues beneath the sea

laura viersI've had Laura Veirs' record Year of Meteors for a while now. That great cover of her looking straight at you - well, it's been looking straight at me for a few weeks, and it's taken that long for the album to grow on me.

Laura Veirs - Galaxies.

This song has a kind of viral effect; it creeps in, and the next thing you know, you're wandering around singing, "Ten thousand leagues beneath the sea." Strangers look at you kind of weird, but that's okay. They already think you're kinda crazy.
The rest of the record is very good; great for the winter and its slow, quiet days. Everything slinks in and out, creeps around corners and catches you by surprise. Nonesuch Records continues to put out great releases, and its roster - which now includes Wilco, Randy Newman, Laurie Anderson, David Byrne, and Emmylou Harris - continues to excel.

You can buy Year of Meteors from Amazon.
