Echo, delay

Vladislav Delay - The Third Quarter

Finland's Vladislav Delay is a musical chameleon: he is a modern pioneer of the 'clicks & cuts' techno style, a master of vocal techno under the guise of Luomo (who's two full-length albums Vocalcity and The Present Lover are amazing), and, as you'll hear in this piece, experimental electronic dub. Delay has been producing music for years, and his attention to detail approaches the precision of a watchmaker.

His newest record, The Four Quarters, contains just four tracks, but each of is over thirteen minutes long. Throughout the length of each of the tracks, Delay explores a melody and rhythm, building up and breaking down pieces, adding elements and taking them away in tiny, almost microscopic slices. It makes for really gorgeous background music that you can almost ignore - however it is much more interesting to give it your full attention and hear the journey Delay is trying to take you on, so it is especially great headphone listening.

The Four Quarters is available now on Delay's own label, Huume Recordings and can be purchased from our friends at Forced Exposure or your local indie retailer.

Also, those of you fortunate enough to be in Europe at the moment can see Delay as Luomo performing live in Istanbul on January 7th, and as AGF/Delay in Pisa on March 17th.

I wouls also recommend checking out the new album by The Dolls, which is Vladislav Delay, AGF, and Craig Armstrong.
