Munk - Disco Clown

Munk is amazing, really amazing, especially in the freaky, disco punk production arena. You may already know their song "Kick Out The Chairs" that features DFA heavyweights Nancy Wang and James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem. That song appears on Munk's album, Aperitivo, as does this one. The record is totally solid, but also all over the map! There are a handful of tracks like this that are great disco tracks, a handful of bizarro electro-disco tracks, and a few experimental tracks that really show how out there Munk (who are Mathias Modica and Jonas Imbery) can really be. The record also features apperances by Midnight Mike, Electronicat, DJ Chloe and Princess Superstar.

Aperitivo was released in 2004 by Munich's Gomma Records, also home to Headman, Who Made Who (who you may have heard here), Mocky and the Rammellzee (what the?). The label has been consistently amazing and has been hugely important in pushing forward the current disco/electro-house boom. You can get your hands on some of their releases from Forced Exposure (US) and Boomkat (UK), and at your local indie retailer - pay particular attention to their vinyl output because, seriously, Gomma 12"s are dancefloor gold.

Also, if you're like me and love yourself a good DJ mix, check out the 'mixtape' section of the Gomma website because there are some real gems there!

For all you New Yorkers, Happy Strike Day! Lets just hope this doesn't continue for too long...
