Portland, OR loves Classic Rock

crap

Blitzen Trapper - Crazy on You.

The story goes:

The pacific northwest is not like other places. It's rainy and mild and quiet and they love classic rock. So, I'm not sure who, but someone decided to compile a bunch of local Portland bands to do some classic rock tributes. It was a great idea. Then two of the bands submitted Heart covers. Not only that, they both submitted the same song. What are the odds?? I mean, seriously -- if one band did Barracuda and another did Crazy on You that would be one thing. But for both bands to do Crazy on You? That's just ridiculous.

So our boys Blitzen Trapper were left without a home for their song. We're not an orphanage here at Music for Robots, but we know a good song when we hear one. These guys are great. Their record Field Rexx is outstanding, and worth tracking down. They're a group of five six dudes in the Portland area, and they've been rocking for a few years now.

Currently, their record is about to be put out in the UK on the Good Time Folk label . It's a slightly modified version of the US release. Basically, they dropped a few tracks and added a few from their first record, so it's sort of like a greatest hits. At any rate, it's awesome indie pop stuff. Is their cover of Heart's classic Crazy on You indicative of their overall sound? I'll say yes. You can pick up Field Rexx from CDBaby on the cheap. Highly recommended.

Hmm... sounds vaguely like Hot Chip... might just be the singer's aural resemblance to angel-voiced Alexis... and the farty synths. Good find bro!

The instrumentation to "Crazy on You" is the demo music for a casio keyboard I used to have (and they obviously have too). I'm not sure if that makes them hacks or genius. Probably both.
