Slayer of the Mighty Beast

LA The Sword - Barael's Blade.

Time to get down to work. Nose to the grindstone and all that. It's Monday. What better music is there to help suit up in your armor and charge up to the high ground? Seriously. This makes me want to strap on some chain mail and swing an axe into some beasts head or something. Or at least hang my arm out the window of an El Camino while I burn through Oklahoma on my way towards California. It's driving music for sure.

While some other bands have been dancing around the metal, coming dangerously close while still skirting the full on metal sound, The Sword dive in head first. They have clearly worship at the altar of Sabbath, which I think is fucking awesome. I haven't heard the full length yet, but I've been sitting on their 4- track demo for a few months now, and I've beaten these four songs into the ground. It's fresh and gritty and dangerous, without the stoner laze that so often creeps into this music. It's basically everything I want to hear from a band like this, and I highly recommend it.

So everyone, crank your speakers up as loud as they will go and picture yourself anywhere but the office because you're going to war. Maybe this will inspire you to toss your desk over in a fit of rage as you wrap your tie around your head and light your stapler on fire. Maybe it'll force you to take the next exit off the freeway and drive up into the mountains instead of into the office. Maybe it'll make you want to sit in your parent's basement and practice riffs all fucking day until you have the speed and agility to be the next edward van halen and you'll end up playing hot licks on the next justin timberlake record because he wants to incoporate the hot new sounds you've created. Who the fuck knows. All I know is that this shit is exciting and it makes me want to get shit done.

The new record Age of Winters comes out on Valentine's Day on the always awesome kemado records. Highly recommended.

Hell yes. This is really what I'm talking about. What a perfect band name too. Anyway, if you like this, (this goes for the author too) then look for some stuff by Pearls and Brass, if you haven't already. They're from my home town and ther second record "The Indian Tower" is out on Drag City later this month. Their first self-titled record is worth checking out too. Keep up the good work, I really love this site.
