Like Hanna Barbara Animation

Pronounced PreeThe Prix - Shoot Out the Lights.

It was the keys that sold me. The twirling Leslie in the intro, followed by crisp tap of the Rhodes later on. I'm a sucker for shit like that. And this is one of those great songs where it sounds like the wheels could come off during the chorus and the whole thing could go spinning off a cliff at any moment, bursting into a ball of fire, piano keys spitting into the air. But they reel it in tight, and restrain themselves before shit gets crazy. It's a wonderful feeling -- kind of capping off the night and hinting that there's more to come when the lights go out. I dig it tremendously.

In case you were wondering, the name is pronounced "Pree." So that's nice. These folks are from the same basic "scene" as the Clean Prophets that Blair posted earlier this week. See how it all works? Echo Park has a scene -- however small and odd it may be. I'm actually kind of surprised that i hadn't heard of these guys before. Echo Park isn't far from my house at all. I need to get out more, right?

Anyway, this comes from their self-titled debut record, which they are about to release. I don't have details on when it'll be out, but I'm sure I can figure it out before long and hit you with an update. That's what I'm here for, right? In the meantime, you can stay tuned to their website for more info and tunes for the downloading. They're a nice bunch of guys, making solid records. Definitely worth checking out.

There is definetly a diverse scene in these parts, Mark, and it seems to revolve around Anton and his Massacre vibe. A little retro, a little british. Viva K, The Morlocks, Spindrift, The Fanatic, The Mojo Filters, The Quarter After. Not much of a press in LA for local music, so its been under the radar lately.

Nice. I'm new here, but is there a reason your images are really huge? (The one on this post is 2.6 megs) That might be screwing up your bandwidth, but again I don't know if you already know. =) Keep up the good work!
