These are the New Old Dance Steps
Hot Club de Paris - Ship Wrecked.
Ruffled By? Rumple Pie? I don't know. I can't make it out. Maybe because I just woke up on a lazy monday, but regardless, I love this song. Keep in mind that this is an unmastered track that was recently recorded. It's got a great little sing-a-long chorus, with a great beat. It's not all disco snares and pomp like lots of the other Brit bands out there. These guys seem like a classically trained indie rock band. They name-check the minutemen, black flag and pavement in their bio, and that makes sense. I don't hear black flag as much as the other two. It's loose and fast and not quite nonsensical. I dig it. The whirling coda with the barking shouts at the end is downright infectious. The trio has been together since 2004, touring and writing. They recorded a short demo about a year ago and recently signed to Moshi Moshi in London. This track will be included on the upcoming Moshi Moshi compilation, which should be fantastic (hot chip, bloc party, lo-fi-fnk, etc). The boys in Hot Club de Paris will be making the journey from Liverpool down to Austin as well, so if you're going be sure and swing by the Moshi Moshi tent to take a listen.
It's hard to describe the guitar sounds they got on their demo. It's a thin, rubbery sound that reminds me of so many midwestern indie bands of the 1990s, and it definitely has a place in the indie world of Aught Six. Drums and bass are tight too.
At any rate, you can find more info about them at their web site, and you can hear some of their demo material over at their myspace page. The demo track "Slump Life" is particularly good.
