Hey Lady!

hey lady

Ladytron - Weekend (Virgin Tears Depraved Weekend Mix)

Just a quickie today, as I've got a lot of running around to do at work, after work and at home tonight... despite what my posts here might lead you to believe, I lead a busy life. Ha! Anyway, this is a mix of a song from Ladytron's third full-length record Witching Hour - it was released last fall without too much big media coverage, unfortunately. The record is solid, if not a bit on the slick side - I really like the 'tron's first and second albums, 2001's 604, which preceded the big retro-80s/electroclash push by a year, and 2002's Light & Magic, which featured my favorite track of theirs "Seventeen," which graced many a mix-tape that year.

Aaaanyway, this remix is by Virgin Tears - a duo from (I think) southern California who tend to make the hipster kids sweat it out on the dancefloor - I haven't heard them DJ yet, but based on their remix work and the mixes they have up for download on the website, I assume they know how to throw down (take a look at their photos: hilarious and amazing!). I'd originally heard of them because my wife has a VT t-shirt she got when she met them out in LA, and the shirt is totally dope. I've seen a couple of other people wearing them out here in New York City, and its always a cool occurrence when you see someone on the street wearing a shirt for a band that you've heard of but that isn't mainstream.

Anyway theis VT remix is very current, with crunchy drums, big fat synths, and would fit nicely with anything by Teifschwarz, Digitalism, Steve Bug, M.A.N.D.Y. etc. so it is fun. Now, I don't know if this remix will be commercially available or on vinyl, but I'm happy to share it with you all to get both Ladytron and Virgin Tears heard by more folks.

Enjoy + happy Wednesday!

PS: Show/Party Alert
Tomorrow, Thursday Feb. 2nd, is the PLUG Awards, for which MFR was nominated as best Music Website (I hope you all voted for us!).

The event is going to be tons of fun this year, with my buddy James F!@#$%^ Friedman DJing all night, and performances by MFR alumni Beans w/Holy Fuck, Chad VanGaalen, and headliners The National, as well as peformances by Celebration, Cage, The Perceptionists (Mr. Lif & Akrobatik), Emiliana Torrini and Aesop Rock.

The shit goes down at Webster Hall, with doors opening at 7:00 pm - Tickets are available from Ticketweb for $20, which ain't bad for a long, solid night of music.

Us NYC robots hope to see you there!

It's late a night and I should be in bed. But instead, I'm checking in with you robots. Imagine my surprise when the post is personally addressed to me and it's about one of my favs (Ladytron, that is. Virgin Tears is news to me, but they sound great.) Thanks for the goodies.

qq, blair, do you got a regular dj gig in LA, if so where?

Posted by: man at February 2, 2006 2:49 PM

Hey Man,
nopes - I live out in NYC dude, so my flyin' cross-country for a regular gig isn't a possibility... yet. BUT, if anyone out there wants to help get me LA gig so I can show the Left Coast how it is done, hit me up mr.blair (at) gmail.com.
AND robot Mark does live in LA, and he plays out on occasion - hit him up for his next gig!

I dont want to give a shout out to the club where i saw them, but its named after an MJ song. PLEASE DONT SAY IT, if you know what im talking about.
