I like Guitars
Guitar - Sunday Afternoon At Tamagawa River
I'm glad it is Tuesday today. You know why? Because it means Monday is really over - Mondays are always so tough on me, coming back to the real world after spending time decompressing and hanging out with my wife - it can just be tough. Anyway, one of the things I did this weekend was go through some of the CDs that have become my backlog, and this one jumped right out of the bunch on first listen.
The artist's name is Guitar, which is a recording alias for Michael Lückner, who also goes by Digital Jockey, and is part of the group Computerjockeys. This track comes from the new album, Tokyo which comes out on February 21st on Germany's Onitor Records. It features guitars in many forms, played, processed, layered and sampled by Lückner, and includes traditional Japanese guitars and drums as part of the mass of sounds. The album also features the voice of Ayako Akashiba, who has collaborated with Lückner on his previous Guitar albums (Sunkissed and Japan-only Honeysky) as well as the Computerjockeys Plankton album.
Guitar's sound is really great, and Tokyo as a whole is a really beautiful listen - the tracks feel very much alive, and they are rich with a sense of Lückner's and Akashiba's synthesis of, and love for, the city it is named after. I think I should have posted this song yesterday to help both myself, and all of you, combat the Monday blues, but hopefully this will feel nice on a Tuesday morning as well.
Tokyo will be available to purchase from Onitor-distributors, Kompakt or Hausmusik (Germany) (released Feb. 17 in Europe), from Forced Exposure (US), or downloaded from Kompakt-MP3.net - enjoy!
