Stereo Total - Das Erste Mal (Justus Köhncke Remix)

Germany is far away, but this song sounds close by for sure - it is, like most remixes by tech-house folks, essentially a new song by the remixer that has a couple of elements of the original track (the vocals and a slice of the melody) lingering in the ether. The warm synth-pads, the squirty, farty bassline that bounces along with the beat, they are pure Köhncke - if anything the track reminds me a bit of his monstrous single from 2004 "Timecode" which also appeared on his 2005 full-length, Doppelleben.

The original song is by the French/German duo Stereo Total, aka Françoise Cactus and Brezel Göring - they've been together and making music since the early 1990s, and show no sign of slowing down. Das Erste is from their 6th studio album Do The Bambi, which was released last year on the Munich-based Disko B label. This remix comes from their newest album, Discotheque, also released by Disko B, which collects remixed tracks from Bambi, as well as rare side-project songs and and features reworks by Motor Mark, Jacno, Echokrank, Barom One, Munk and Mad Professor. There are definitely a few on there that are rock solid, but this Köhncke one is definitely my favorite.

You can purchase Discotheque from our friends at Forced Exposure and at finer indie retailers throughout the US, starting today - you can also download the album from iTunes.

Enjoy!

Strange, Justus Köhnke remixes all over the place. Ok there was one on Fluxblog, but alas who cares.

Justus is great, and his lyrics are so brilliant, someone should make you learn German for that.

Justus was in Whirlpool Productions --good club techno/disco in the mid-90's.

His album "Was Ist Muzik" was one of my top 5 favorites 3 yrs ago, though the recent follow up album I don't recommend as much.

His music has a lot of personality and he appears to use a very limited palette of synth sounds, but gets a wide range of expression because he has a wide range of tastes in old pop songs.

Excellent Track. I've never heard the original, but I'd like to now.

I wonder if you could put the artist name in your mp3 file name too?
