Oh how I forgot what it's like

Neko Case's voice has a life of its own. I'm no expert on all her work, but I do know that Blacklisted is pretty much a masterpiece, full of darkness, beauty and country music whose surface has a healthy layer of dust.
Case, a Washington native who was deep into the Seattle punk scene before becoming a Canadian country chanteuse, has put out album after album of what can only be called "country", with all the genre's twangy, dark implications. She's also a member of the New Pornographers, who don't have much twang or darkness. Okay, they have no twang at all.
Anyway, Neko Case's new record is called Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, and Anti Records was kind enough to post this, the second track on the album:
It's pretty much vintage Neko Case, which to me means it's beautiful and creepy at the same time. There's probably a better way to put that, but you'll just have to listen to it on repeat, like I've done, until that saw (or is that a theremin?) at the end reverberates your head into submission.
Pre-order Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, which comes out March 7, from Insound.
Then do yourself a favor and order Blacklisted, the album that got me through 2002.
