Miss FairchildMiss Fairchild - Starstruck (Stark Naked P.Nice Mix).

Miss Fairchild put on one of my favorite shows of 2005. These guys hustle like no other, and I'm proud to be posting them again (for a third time!). I got this little EP slipped under my door the other day, and it's pure fire. Anyone familiar with the live show should recognize the two new jams on here. The boys (daddy wralls, the great dunlap, and Dj P.Nice) do a hell of a job getting their live sound down on tape. The beat here is infectious and it just makes me want to dance my damn ass off. P.Nice takes what was already a hot beat and kicks it up to crazy levels, while Wrall's pipes bring the fire. I absolutely love it.

On top of all that, you can check out some hot live footage of the song. This gives you a pretty good idea of what these guys are all about. It's worth sticking around for the Great Dunlap to pull out the jazz flute and get crazy. P.Nice has been known to rock the sax too, but that's for another time. I highly recommend these guys. You can pick up the new EP (which features two new tracks and three remixes) for a few ducats over at their official site.

Nino MoschellaNino Moschella - Are You For Real?

After that debacle of a Sly Stone tribute at the grammys the other night, I've been thinking over bands that would've done an infinitely better job. I mean, the obvious guys like Outkast, Prince and the Red Hot Chili Peppers stand out, but I also think that cats like Miss Fairchild and our man here Nino Moschella would've done a fine job too. I think Nino's EP is absolutely fabulous, and one of the best things I've heard come out on Ubiquity.

Nino hails from the Bay Area where he'd been laying down 4-track tapes, doing his best to get that 70s soul vibe. I'd say he does a hell of job, and has made a record that Steve Wonder should be making in 2006. He's got some great work on the keys, and a powerful voice -- knowing that it's not about mimicry when it comes to soul music, but what you got on the inside. Anyone can do a Sam Cooke impersonation, but it takes a crazy man like BBQ to make it work, right?

You can buy the six-track 12" EP for 8 bucks direct from Ubiquity. Highly recommended purchase.
