The Case Was Made and We're Relaying

Parts and LaborParts & Labor - A Great Divide

In just three minutes and 18 seconds, Brooklyn's Parts & Labor should have you sold. I mean, what else are you really looking for? It opens with relentless, pounding drums and lazer sound effect synth lines. Then an epic, almost Billie Joe-esque vocal rips through a megaphone, and drums start pounding pounding pounding again. A quick squeal of feedback and we're off on a race. It's just plain awesome. I really like what I'm hearing.

We don't normally post songs this far ahead in advance -- Parts & Labor's new record Stay Afraid doesn't come out until April 11th -- but this was just too good to not talk about. It reminds of a more electronic Les Savy Fav, or if Green Days "The Network" side project were actually fucking awesome instead of just nu wave annoying. Or maybe you don't know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, this song'll fry your eggs in the morning, so no need to turn the oven on. I bet you can't wait to hear the rest of the record. While we wait for April, you can keep up to date by reading the band's site, which was recently redesigned to be more artful and informative. I like the new direction for sure. I think this band has figured out where they want to go, after a lukewarm couple of releases. Anyone seen them live? My guess is that it's pretty wreckless stuff.

If you can't wait for the album, they have a 7inch available from plastic records with Great Divide and Take us Back as the b-side.

They're excellent live. I've seen them twice here in Austin, and can't wait to see them again at sxsw.

I highly reccomend the record they put out with Tyondai Braxton called "Rise Rise Rise".

I've seen them live at least 3 times. The best time? A blistering 90 degress in a crusty parking lot in Long Island City. P&L kept it tight and right. P*ss drunk by the time Lightning Bolt came on? Yes. But, from what I hear they tore it up.
Thanks Todd P.!
