Start your week off right!

Baby Dayliner - Go On Baby

Baby Dayliner delivers. We robots ran into a scheduling pinch a while ago, and up popped Ethan Marunas (a.k.a. Baby Dayliner) to save the day (or headline the show, as it were). All the signs pointed to gold when we booked him, but the presence and music he brought on stage were amazing, and even better, unique.

First of all, Baby Dayliner is a live act. His new album, Critics Pass Away (due out this May) was being handed out in crude demo form at his show, but even the polished final version doesn't do justice to the engaging performance he'll treat you in person. BDL is über-tall, has immaculate hair that looks like it came off a classic 50's car, sharp cheekbones that cut their own shadows, and strolls right up on stage with a tiny little suitcase. The box makes the beats, he sings and dances, and the whole things just seems to drive crowds nuts. His music seems to be a sure hit for those into Leonard Cohen, Morissey, Gainsbourg, New Order, and especially Bowie. It's classic, classy, timeless and warm. Like a mink coat. But less cruel.

You can buy CDs of BDL's first album, High Heart and Low Estate, and definitely keep an eye our for Critics Pass Away this May. Most importantly, watch for future BDL shows near you. Here are the ones I know about:

- We 3/15 - Washingon, CD - Black Cat (w/ The National)
- Mo 3/20 - NYC, NY - Bowery Ballroom (w/ The Go Team!)
- Fr 3/24 - Los Angeles, CA - El Cid (w/ Anna Oxygen & Boyjazz)
- We 3/29 - Los Angeles, CA - Troubadour (w/ The National)

Whoa, a lot of great ones there... especially Hawk And A Hacksaw, his album last year was one of the best... If only I could be there!

god, I hope this guy doesn't fade off into obscurity. He's way too talented.

This album is solid. You can download another preview track at http://invisiblelimb.net/limb/2006/03/31/baby-dayliner-critics-pass-away . Pick up this record when it comes out in May, you won't be sorry.
