Your legs are wood and tied to the city

A challenge from one robot to another: listen to this song and then try to get it out of your head. You can't! Don't even try! Pop wins again! Pop music: 1,298,065; You: 0.

The Essex Green are based in Brooklyn, but this isn't another hipster post-punk band. This is pop revivalism at its finest, combining the best of the Mamas and the Papas with the shiny surfaces of the New Pornographers and the Shins. Some bands are able to take that 1960s feel and do a flawless imitation, but the great thing about this record, Cannibal Sea, is that the songs are also unique.

The Essex Green - Don't Know Why (You Stay).

Fun, right? I'm trying to parse the lyrics enough to understand what the hell is going on, but that will come later. Until then I'm tapping my foot and bobbing my head, pretending everything's gonna be just fine. That's what this music is for, right?

Cannibal Sea comes out on March 21, but you can pre-order the album on good ol' Amazon.

Yeah, I forgot that this group is all Elephant-6 spawned and everything. Good stuff...I can hear why Shins/New Pornos comparisons exist.

I dont like the lead singers voice. He sounds like......other singers. But I agree that the pop of the song is there. (FWD'd)

Have to say the Eric B & Rakim tune sounds a bit tired. They certainly wheeled out a few geriatric samples; Pump Up the Volume belongs in a nursing home. Some beautiful tunes on the site though, the Antennas - Adapt is fantastic
