Ready for Airtime

Antennas - Adapt!

I realize I'm starting to sound like a broken record when I say stuff about how we get "a lot of submissions" from bands and labels, and how its a pleasant surprise when the music is "actually good" and all that, but jesus, this little slab of sweetness is totally off the hook, pure-pop genius.

The band is a three-piece, made up of Christian Björkman (vocals), Johnny Persson (guitar) and Henrik Westerholm (drums). They've been together since 2004, but changed their name (from Novak), and musical style, when two Novak band-members left. The sound that Antennas has seems incredibly well crafted: gorgeous melodies, big swells of orchestration, and Björkman's high, lilting vocals. I know the band is trying to get its hooks in me when I listen to them, and it works. It works like a charm. I wish more music sounded like this... Antennas are getting attention over on MTV Europe - can you imagine how much better life would be if a band like this was on MTV over here?

Anywho, "Adapt!" is the second single from their new full-length Sins, which was released last week by the Swedish indie label, Novoton - home to a handful of other bands worth looking into: Black Belt, Pascal, and Existensminimum (aka Magnus Henriksson, who played engineer and producer for Antennas).

You can download the album from Klicktrack or purchase it from the label's webstore, here. The band has an extensive Spring and Summer tour of Europe lined up, starting with Underbara Bar in Stockholm (March 16th), and London's Tack! Tack! Tack! party (April 10th), so try to see them if they roll through your berg!

Ho hum. What's for lunch? If this is the cream of the crop, the State of the Art is more dire than I expected.

Oh, snap! Could be, sir. Maybe I should just cut back on the coffee, though what I could seriously use is more than 12 notes to play with. Let's get together and detune a piano someday.

If you're only posting music that is "actually good" how did your girlfriend's stuff get on here?

Ouch John, that's a real dick move...
I'm glad you at least left your name instead of posting anonymously, but I wish you'd have left your email address or website so I could come to your site and act like an asshole too.
