It's Not Me

Holocene menomena - Twenty Cent Revolt (TalkDemonic Remix).

I'm pretty sure this is what my dreams sound like. Well, I think my dreams are a little longer because this is way way way too short.

I'm not sure why this version is called Twenty Cent Revolt. Menomena's original is called Twenty Cell Revolt. Subtle difference. But at any rate, amazing things are at work here. I mean, this is what happens when two of the best, most creative drummers in indie rock come together. Danny from Menomena, reworked by Kevin from TalkDemonic. I'm telling you, it's ridiculous. I'm not sure how it was done, in the literal terms of remixing, but I'd like to believe that Kevin laid down a fresh drum track. I think that's the one we hear in the right channel, quietly blowing our minds.

But wait, there's more. This comes from a compilation. It's titled: "It's importland to me to be one step further than one step beyond." Brilliant! The disc looks to chronicle the music scene in Portland, OR right now by having a bunch of local artists remix a bunch of other local artists. It just turns out that amazing dudes like memomena, and the thermals, and copy and e*rock, and Y.A.C.H.T. and Blitzen Trapper and the Blow all happen to live there. So they end up with a totally kick ass mix.

Now, I'm not exactly sure how you'll be able to buy this. Details on the release are somewhat sketchy. However, you can go find out some more info at Holocenemusic.com. Holocene is the name of a venue and new record label in the Portland area. This mix will be their first release on April 18th. Seems like they're having a total blast up there, if this record's any indication. This is totally recommended.

Related: if you don't have Menomena's I am the Fun Blame Monster yet, you need to do yourself a favor and go pick it up. You'll thank yourself. I promise.

[update:] you can preorder the record direct from Darla.

yeah, talkdemonic is nuts! i've been kicking myself all week because i missed them at one of my favorite clubs last weekend (pretty much to hang out with a girl), so of course mark has to post some. damn you mark! damn you libido! damn!

for anyone who hasn't caught them, it's a really cool live show. it's just the two of them, but it's a BIG sound.

lastly... good work on posting pdx bands of late, mark. i've seen copy, point juncture, wa, talkdemonic, & menomena (not just this time in remixed form), which is pretty great for someone who lives out of state. have you heard yacht, by the way? you should check his myspace page.
