Dell + Flügel - Study For A Skyscraper
Hey, happy Monday!
Returning to Germany for a few minutes, here's a nice little oddity for you, Dell + Flügel is the musical output of Christopher Dell and Roman Flügel. Dell is a master of the Fender Rhodes and Vibraphone, who'd studied music and philosophy in Darmstadt and Rotterdam, then studied under Jazz master Gary Burton at Berklee School of Music in Boston. Mister Flügel you probably know better as one half of the kings of dark tech-house, Alter Ego, though he also releases work as Acid Jesus, Eight Miles High, Soylent Green, etc.
Together, they make this crazy, tripped out music that goes from hip-hop breaks to tech-house, all layered with melodies from the vibraphone and washes of keys from the rhodes. It is pretty out there as a whole, with wandering, jazzy explorations touched by glitches and other electronic flourishes, as well as straight up dance tunes. Their album, Superstructure, is out now on Berlin's Laboratory Instinct, who have also released work by Atom(tm), one of Uwe Schmidt's many aliases (aka Señor Coconut), and Daedelus among a handful of others.
If you're into this vibe that I'm talking about here, you can order Superstructure direct from the label, or from our friends at Forced Exposure (US) or Boomkat (UK) - a unique listening experience and definitely recommended.
