This is me and my brother getting blood on the street tonight
Frightened Rabbit - Go Go Girls.
Welcome to the second half of your mixtape. We'll start things off in the best possible way. A quick succession of rim taps and a solid kick drum. A flourish of chords, a whisp of a bass riff. The vocals kick in and the whole thing builds as the words tumble out of his mouth in a thick Glaswegian accent that coats the whole song like a bucket of paint. The drums open up, the riff gets thicker and the guitar cracks. It's a beautiful thing.
It would seem that things are starting to happen in Glasgow these days. Frightened Rabbit are just the beginning, and so far I'm sold. They've recorded a great little record -- 10 songs in just over 30 minutes, ranging from rawkus pub rock to quiet interludes. These boys are quick witted and sure footed. I love it when I get a CD in the mail and it doesn't disappoint me. I'm amazed when I can listen from start to finish and fall in love right away.
Frightened Rabbit are a duo. Grant on drums and Scott on guitar. They've been playing around in Glasgow for awhile and are now seen stretching out to Brighton, Dublin and Dundee. So all you in the UK should check them out. They're peers with some great bands so you can expect some solid line ups.
You should go get their record. You can pick it up from their label's myspace page on the cheap. The package that it comes in is quite lovely. Highly recommended. Let's all split a scotch egg and listen on.
