We'll find a cathedral city, you can convince me I am pretty

It's funny often the words "shameless" and "pop" are put next to each other, as if pop music inherently needs some sort of apology. I don't get it. I don't even get why people have to have "guilty pleasures," really - I understand people have images to maintain or whatever bullshit they tell themselves, but the glories of ABBA and Beyonce don't really seem worth risking that way, do they?
Anyway, I digress. Already. (Some mornings it doesn't take long, you know?) The pop of Glasgow's Camera Obscura is glorious. There are inevitable comparisons to Belle and Sebastian, but I think that point is obvious for a reason: there's an unexpected funk under these sweet melodies, a little blue-eyed soul for the indie kids.
Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out Of This Country.
I guess that track is the record's most immediately catchy track, but the whole CD, which is also called Let's Get Out Of This Country, is just great. I know I keep writing about spring and summer music, but I just can't stop. This is music of hazy sunshine, dandelions, and lemonade, and it deserves your well-earned wages.
Spend them here to pre-order Let's Get Out Of This Country, which comes out next month on Merge.
Also, read the band's blog. It's fun.
