I kissed you on the face, I kissed you on the playground

I know we're not the only site out here posting this, but I thought it couldn't hurt.
I couldn't believe it when I heard Sufjan Stevens had a whole other album of C'mon Feel the Illinoise material. As a musician, it pissed me off: how many great records can this guy put out?! Grrrrrr.
My anger hasn't abated, because The Avalanche is a perfect companion to Illinois. You know how sometimes you listen to an odds-and-sods record and think, "Oh, I know why this song didn't make it on a record. Because it sucks"? Well, the quality on The Avalanche, due out in July, is alarmingly, and consistently, high. The fact that there are three stunning versions of "Chicago" is evidence enough of Sufjan's ridiculous talent.
And then there's this:
Sufjan Stevens - The Henney Buggy Band.
It's pretty representative of the record as a whole, I guess, in the sense that it simultaneously comes out of left field and makes perfect sense. That Sufjan, he's pretty incredible. The jerk.
You can pre-order The Avalanche from Insound. It comes out July 11.
