'Frappé

Last night's Goldfrapp show at Irving Plaza was something I've been salivating over for weeks. Naturally, professional obligations reared their hideous, un-reschedule-able heads, and I was under house arrest. Fortunately, I have a second set of eyes and ears that share my brain that were able to attend. Straight from the wifeybot: Goldfrapp @ Irving Plaza, 5/16. I'm so jealous I can barely talk to her.
"Last night at Irving Plaza, everyone in the audience was in love with the blonde bomb shell in the stiletto heels and skin tight black jumpsuit on stage, otherwise known as Alison Goldfrapp. Granted, with the presence that she had, just her standing there breathing into the mike would've kept the audience enthralled for the evening. Lucky for us, the show involved much more. The band and the sound was outstanding. Alison's vocals were spot on, going back and forth between being truly moving or spooky on the Felt Mountain tracks, and completely dripping with glamour on the Black Cherry and Supernature tracks. With all the glamour Alison exuded, it seemed perfectly fitting that there were fans at the foot of the stage constantly blowing her hair back as if at a fashion photo shoot while she belted out the songs. Everyone in that crowd was completely immersed, and you could hear it from them—the hoots, hollers, whistling, and clapping was with out a doubt several steps beyond any other crowd I've witnessed. While every song was fantastic, your correspondent's favorites were "Deer Stop" in which the simple act of swaying closer and farther from the mike to give her vocals the proper effects took on another level of elegance, and "Utopia" which certainly felt like a beckon to enter some new dimension where everyone looks and sounds as cool as Goldfrapp. To add to the mix, there were two dancers who periodically came out doning costumes that followed the requisite Goldfrapp proportions of surreal and sexy. While the dancers fit into the whole performance, the focus of the show was still all about Allison. Everyone in the audience left the show completely elated, and it seemed as though Alison did too, as if not quite expecting to be as well received by the audience as she was, but given the caliber of the performance, the crowd's reaction was inevitable."
Sadly, despite how amazing Goldfrapp's recently release Supernature [buy it] is, we tend to get nailed with the cease-and-desist quicker than you can say "but we're trying to help!" when we post anything from the EMI group labels, so no music today. But you can stream videos from the band's site, and listen to snippets and [download via iTunes].
