Ridin' Around in My Pinewood Rally
In the early days of Music for Robots, we were more or less obsessed with Phoenix. Alphabetical had just come out and Blair and I dutifully ripped several tracks from our vinyl copies for posting on the site. Keep in mind that only about 400 people were reading at the time, so it wasn't nearly the RIAA-baiting tactic such a stunt would be now. The point is, we were fans. Blair and I have been into the French rock dudes since United first dropped back in 2000 or whatever. And the point of all this is that I figured folks might be wondering why we haven't posted anything from their new record yet.
Well, it was a surprise to me too.
So, I figured today was a good a day as any to drop Rally on you. My first thought was that it reminds me of Blue Swedes' "Pinewood Rally" (the b-side to their cover of the Association's "Never My Love"). Both songs have that summery feel of cruising along the boulevard, letting your hand ride out in the breeze and sticking your sweaty feet into some flip flops for the first time this year. It's June. People are graduating, jobs are changing, kids are moving around. It's time to hit the road and start driving.
So what are you waiting for? It's Friday. Push away from your desk, dust off your car keys and head towards something. Anything. You east coasters might bitch about how it's supposed to rain this weekend or something. But whatever. Pop this CD in the deck and drive west.
You can pick it up from our Bro's over at insound. Highly recommended.
