Yer smooshed
Smoosh's new album came out this month on Barsuk. When I listen to what these girls are doing, and I think about how when I was a teenager, Mark and I were in the Wright brothers' basement playing Greenday and Smashing Pumpkins covers, I don't know, I'm just really blown away. Not that I wouldn't take away those days spent in the basement wailing on cheap instruments, but it helps me understand what young talent is--cause I didn't have any.
Anyway, I don't like to harp on this band's age--fun music is fun music no matter what. You can stream the entire new album here and see for yourself. There's less of a flirtation with hip-hop or dance music here, and more of a straightforward pop record.
I'm glad that Barsuk went for Smoosh, and that these ladies are getting some credit-- Billboard did a nice write-up. Music like theirs is one of the best products of this new democratization of indie music.
