It's a Beautiful World
Down with the Butterfly - Blue and Green.
I just watched the Mavericks lose in game six, so bear with me. That shit was crazy.
The music of Down WIth the Butterfly (seriously, change your name, dudes) reminds me of a lot of things. This particular song reminds me of early REM, and that's a good thing. I can't quite put my finger on why, but it's there. I think it's the drums and the bass. There's also a confidence to it that works as well, though early Stipe was notoriously shy. But when the drums rolls starting hitting around the two minute mark, and the singer starts howling, it's clear that these dudes have a direction in mind.
Now, the rest of the record is all over the place. Definite high and lows, but I like it. I think these canadian dudes (from halifax!) are up to something. I always liked the Altantic Canada, since it seems ilke if you're not from Montreal of Vancouver you're not doing anything. But my money's on Halifax as a breakout scene (obviously i'm not a gambler).
At any rate, this track comes off of their new record, Rise. I have no idea how to buy this record -- the band's website hasn't been updated since 2005 and their myspace offers no clues. Hopefully one of the band members will comment with that info, since the record is a good one, and definitely worth checking out. I find myself coming back to it on these hot afternoons, and falling in love with its prog-rich canadian indie rock stylings. So hit me up fellas, and let me know what the story is.
