I want things to be different

One great thing about moving to Minneapolis almost two years ago has been getting to know some of the fantastic music here. There really are just tons of bands, and they're all so supportive of each other, and it's relatively easy for a newcomer to get gigs.
So, not like I'm a Twin Cities music expert or anything, but I'm always surprised when I hear a great local band I hadn't heard of before. That's another great thing about the scene here: not only are there tons of bands, there are tons of good bands, and they all play gigs together. (Sure, there are shitty bands too, but when beer here is this good, who cares?)
I stumbled upon One For The Team because of my work with Rift, a local music magazine. Little did I know that their record Good Boys Don't Make Noise had recently made the Star Tribune's "Best of 2006 so far" list.
It's easy to see why: this record is just well done. It's really solid work, especially (and I know this is lame to say, but still) for a band whose frontman Ian Anderson (no, not that Ian Anderson!) is 21. I see good things ahead.
The band also includes John Krueger on bass, Elliot Manthey on drums, Bryan Sonday on guitar and Sam Gerard on synth and tambourine.
One For The Team - I Promised I'd Grow Up.
This song grabs me from the first couple seconds, that great hook spread over only a few notes. I love it when there's this much going on, in terms of a song's arrangement, but it all works so well together to make a big ball of indie rock, you know?
You can buy Good Boys Don't Make Noise from Afternoon Records, the band's label (for which Anderson handles publicity and promotion).
