The Futureheads - Skip To The End (Digitalism Remix)
On Saturday night, my wife and a few friends went to my friend Josh's (aka JDH) party, Fixed, to hear him and his partner Dave P DJ, and to hear the heads of the much-lauded Kitsuné label do a set. It was a night of new-Paris techno and amazing dance-remixes, including this song.
The Futureheads were, and are, part of the wave of British indie bands from a year or so ago that flooded the US - some of these bands were good, some were not so good - but the Futureheads, along side Bloc Party, were one of the best. Well, they've been busy, with the touring the world and all that, but somehow they've managed to record and release another whole album, News and Tributes, released by Startime International and Vagrant Records. The album is getting good reviews, as it should.
So this remix, by the duo known as Digitalism, is a killer. A stone-cold killer. They chose to keep the pop structure of the song essentially intact, but they inject it with their brand of distortion and synth-heavy dance magic. These guys have released singles on Kitsuné, the latest of which is The Jupiter Room, which I also heard on Saturday night, and if you're into their sound at all, it is an essential record. The song also appears on the new Kitsuné Maison 2 compilation, which was released last week, and is simply amazing.
Buy the Futureheads' News and Tributes from Amazon, Insound, or download it from iTunes.
Buy Kitsune Maison 2 from the Turntable Lab or Juno UK, and check out their Myspace page to preview a few of the tracks on the album.
