Plaid - The Launching of Big Face
I always have been, and probably always will be, a fan of WARP records. One reason for this is that they've managed to have, and keep, a great roster of musicians on hand for seventeen years now. In recent years they've introduced us to some great new talent, and the old standbys are always there, working on something new.
One such group is Plaid. They've got a new full-length album, Greedy Baby, that comes out in July. The album comes with both CD and DVD (but thankfully not as one of those shitty Dual-Disc things). The DVD features the contents of the CD, but in 5.1 format audio, AND videos for all nine songs on the album, plus four extras, by acclaimed director/animator/editor Bob Jaroc - he's best known for his work with the Go! Team and Flaming Lips, and the visual elements of this release are no less psychedelic and amazing than you'd expect with such a background. Check out the mini-site WARP has put up for it - you can check out the full video for "New Family 2006" and the trailer for the animated "Super Barrio" video, which is amazing.
The album itself is musically really good too! I'm a fan of Plaid (aka Ed Handley & Andrew Turner), which was originally begun as a side project from their work with Ken Downie as the Black Dog, and would recommend this to fans of their Double Figure and Spokes albums especially.
You can pre-order Greedy Baby from WARPmart, and you can get the digital single for "Super Positions" from WARP's digital-download store, Bleep (which also includes an exclusive non-album track).
Solid.
