Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas - En Dag I Mai

Finally. America's favorite summer holiday, the 4th of July long-weekend. This year, I get super-duper-extra-secret-lucky and have Monday and Tuesday off. Holy crap!

So, here's something that is old-hat to many clued-in peeps, from the self-titled Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas record that was released by Ghent's Eskimo Recordings. The duo, Hans-Peter Lindstrøm and Thomas Moen Hermansen, have been recording music together for a few years now, starting with their Further Into The Future EP released by Lindstrøm's amazing Feedelity imprint - the label he started so he could release his own music when other's weren't interested. It takes a while for people to understand when it is this forward-thinking I guess, right?

So what is it? It is disco music. Real disco music. Not Village People disco, but always pushing the boundaries, originator-level shit like disco was back before getting co-opted and made mainstream. It is underground dance music. If you couldn't tell by their names, these guys are Norwegian - you know, northern lights, fjords, long long winter nights, long long summer days, and some amazing musical talent. The pace of their songs is definitely laid back. There are a few real chill numbers on the record, along with a handful of mid-tempo electro-disco grooves, all of which are tied together by the outer space lasers, handclaps, cowbells, conga drums, and the perfect sense of melody these guys seem to share.

Their album was released late last year, made its way to the US early this year, and has made the rounds since then, with both Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas remixing folks like LCD Soundsystem, Chicken Lips, Martini Bros, etc. I love this record.

Buy it from Forced Exposure or Insound, or download it from iTunes. Basically, this record is an essential purchase if you're into dance music. Period.

Have a great and safe holiday weekend!
