This Pretty Pistol

Say Hi Say Hi to Your Mom - Snowcones and Puppies.

There's a bunch of men up on the roof today. They're using cranes to replacie the hot water heaters. It has something to do with new California codes. I just really wish I'd remembered this when I went to bed last night. I totally would've showered and whatnot. As it stands now, I can't even brush my teeth. I'm not the most prepared individual I suppose.

At any rate, this has nothing to do with the new album from Say Hi to Your Mom. He improves with each of his records -- in terms of technical skill, ambition and craft. This newest one -- called Impeccable Blahs -- is a big leap forward. The songs are big, epic pop rock that fill your speakers and explode your heart. I saw him live a few months ago, and he played this particular track, and it really hit me. When he bursts into the chorus and everything just rises up it's a beautiful moment.

The rest of the album is just as excellent. There's more big guitar songs, quiet synth ballads and some Star Trek references. What else could I ask for, really? Sometimes I think he's writing these albums just for me. If the Rentals reformed and made a new record, I doubt it would be this good.

Maybe the water will be back on at lunch time.

The new record will be in stores on July 25th. But we can already buy it, direct from the band for a measly 8 bucks. What are you waiting for? Highly recommended. His back catalogue is pretty awesome too.

I thought you might get a kick out of knowing that The Rentals have, in fact, actually gotten back together and are working on new material. Their site claims that the album should be ready for a 2007 release. I can't remember where I first read about this, but it's good news!

well no shit. That's hilarious. I always liked the Rentals, but they never seemed to but one whole album together -- it was also some great songs mixed with a healthy dose of mediocrity. Maybe they can do it this time around. We'll have to wait and see.
