Hidden and waiting for their prey

Oh, webgoers. This has already been an exhausting week, and it has included good things like interviewing the awesome Mark Mallman, and not-so-awesome things, like realizing I can't yet sell my car after all, because it doesn't have a Minnesota title. (I hate you, DMV!) This last piece of information would have been good to know before I tried to actually do the title exchange with the buyer downtown. Grrr.
Anyway, as usual, music has been one of the saving graces - along with my fiancee and the fine people at the Coca-Cola company. M. Ward in particular has been keeping me afloat today, as has the new record by the Texas band Centro-Matic.
Centro-Matic - Triggers & Trash Heaps.
I'll be honest with you - I had no idea who Centro-Matic were before their CD Fort Recovery arrived in my mailbox last week. I also didn't know what to expect, even though their press materials compare them to the Flaming Lips and Husker Du.
But pleasant surprises are the best surprises, and there's nothing quite like popping in a record and finding that it's something you never would have known about if it hadn't arrived at your door. Though these guys have been around for years, but I hope they get some more attention. This record came out in March, but it deserves a long, long shelf life.
You can pick up Fort Recovery from Amazon, Insound, or Centro-Matic themselves.
