Always Have A Roof Above Me

the split Frank Turner - The Outdoor Type.

I remember standing right near the stage at T.T. the Bear's while my friend drunkenly shouted throughout the entire set. People were pissed. I'm not really sure why -- it was an Evan Dando show. What did they expect? Reverence? Anyway... he didn't play my favorite song, so what did I care?

I also think it's nothing short of perfect that one of the best Lemonhead songs wasn't written by him. It was written by Ben Morgan. Brilliant. It's just a great pop song with a wonderful hook and plenty of wit. What's not to like. And here we have Frank Turner, of the famed UK Hardcore band Million Dead. He does a superb job with it, really capturing the fear and sadness in the song. I mean, basically the narrator is a pussy, coming up with all these excuses not to go camping.

At any rate, this is from a split 12" that Frank has done with Jonah Matranga on Welcome Home Records. It's a collection of 4 covers from each, and it's really quite beautiful. If you like this song then you'll definitely like the rest of it. You can pick it up on the cheap direct from the label. Highly recommended. There aren't enough people making records like this.

ah, TT's. even more than Great Scott, you can practically step onto the stage without meaning to, it's so low and you're so close.

speaking of Lemonhead - aren't they coming out with something new?

Hate to be an australian power-pop geek, but Tom Morgan wrote this tune, not Ben. Anyway, Smudge is the name of the band and they just re-released their awesome Manilow album from 1994 with a bonus disc. MFR fans will love it....
