Wednesdays are Weird

Peeping Tom - Sucker (Feat. Norah Jones)

We all know my historical fascination with Mike Patton (in case that don't ring a loud bell, think Ipecac Records, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, and a million other projects; or see previous posts here, here, and here.) on MFR. Amidst his other thousands of projects, Patton has somehow managed to wrangle together nearly the entire cast responsible for putting out a significant chunk of the vinyl I bought in 2001. Namely, he's roped in Kool Keith, Dan the Automator, Massive Attack, Babel Gilberto, Jel, Odd Nosdam, Doseone, Amon Tobin, and Norah Jones (though I didn't buy anything by her that year. or since really...) to produce a whopping hell of a compilation album.

What's neat about Peeping Tom, as the project is called, is that for Patton fans, all the added talent serves to provide a foundation for, rather than drown out, Pattons' familiar-yet-entropic musical style. It's loud, crazy, funny, dark, and overall exactly what you'd expect from Patton on a good day. His collaborators let him run with it, with Amon Tobin and Dan the Automator providing some amazing production to let Patton go bonkers. Norah Jones even sings "motherfucker" on this track. I didn't think she had it in her.

You can see Peeping Tom all over the place this month, and you can get tour date and listen to the whole album streaming on his Myspace page. If you like it, you can download the entire album (along with several others) as part of 25 FREE Music Downloads at eMusic.

Happy Hump Day!

The Peeping Tom show is real good. I saw them open up for Gnarls Barkley in Minneapolis. Alls I got to say is that the late-mid-show Rahzel (yes from the Roots Rahzel) routine was totally fantastic. As far as the whole-band sound - Patton really is dedicated to his orchesteral craft, they had like 9 people on stage brining the whole sound out live. Many of the songs performed were totally worth a buy. On the pick note, some of the agro-screechy songs are sadly bland, I mean I love metal and all but the abundance of nümetal Mr.Bungle-copycat bands has made the soft to hard changeup less intriguing. Oh and Gnarls was silly fun good time.
