Rhythm & Sound with Freddy Mellow - Truly (Vladislav Delay Remix)

So a couple weeks back, the amazing Berlin-based Burial Mix label released this album, See Mi Yah Remixes, which is all these killer remixes of the Rhythm & Sound album from last year, See Mi Yah - a one-riddim album, with ten different deejays providing the vocals, including Paul St. Hilaire, Ras Perez, Koki, Ras Donovan, Freddy Mellow, Walka Gabriel, Sugar Minot, Willi Williams, Bobbo Shanti, Rod Of Iron, and Jah Cotton - this is serious stuff.

See, Rhythm & Sound is actually a pair of producers, Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald, who have been releasing electronic dub and reggae music since the mid 90s, and have worked with all manner of vocalists over the years. However, they're also known (perhaps more widely) as Basic Channel, and under that alias have been putting out minimal and dub-influenced techno for just as long.

So, thanks to their likely-huge network of connections, this remix record was able to happen and includes reworks of all variety of sounds - minimal techno, electro-disco, there's even a dub-step track or two on here - from producers Soundstream, Villalobos, Carl Craig, Tikiman, Substance, François K, Vainquer, Sleeparchive, Hallucinator, and my man here, Sasu Ripatti, aka Luomo, or, in this case, Vladislav Delay. Its a good listen, and for whatever reason, I find reggae, dub, and reggae-techno incredibly soothing on ridiculously hot days like today.

You can buy See Mi Yah Remixes direct from the Basic Channel folks via Hardwax.com if you're in Europe, or if you're in the US, you should see our friends at Forced Exposure if you want physical product, or download it via iTunes. The same goes for the original See Mi Yah record.

Enjoy, and try to stay cool. Big up!

hi Blair - thanks again for posting this & Danke to Burial Mix for letting it loose. I've so far only heard snippets of the remixes on net shop sites (tip for those who don't want to use iTunes - Burial Mix stuff is available at other sites, for instance www.clickgroove.com). on a first proper listen to this track some of the vocal really works and some of it seems to be just off in terms of key - those Rhodes chords are a bit clean with the very human not-quite-pitched vocal. I second Blair, some of these remixes sound really special and the original album is absolutely beautiful. ten tracks straight off with (almost) the same backing track? it's not boring for a second! cheers a>
