And Justus for All...
Justus Köhncke is one of Kompakt records stable of long-standing artists who, over the past five or so years, has consistently put out great music - he has two full-length albums, 2002's Was Ist Musik and 2005's Doppelleben, and seven (yes, seven!) twelve-inches, including the stunning 2 after 909 (that Erlend Øye included in his contribution to K7's DJ Kicks series), and my personal favorite of his, "Timecode" on the Zwei Photonen EP.
Köhncke has the ability to turn techno, disco, and pop music on its ear, and as such, his music always stands out on Kompakt as being just a little bit different from every other artist they release. His newest EP, Advance is no different in that respect, yet at the same time, it sounds unlike anything else he, or anyone else on Kompakt, has ever done. It is basically a German-engineered-to-perfection take on that disco-techno thing that seems to be driving people crazy lately - live sounding drums, slap bass AND ear-worming synth-bass, humming along to a little melody that changes through the length of the track. The B-side, "Overhead", is just as good, but even more disco in nature. If you are a fan of Justus' work in general, this is essential, and another milestone in his wildly diverse dance-pop catalogue.
Buy it direct from Kompakt or download it via the Kompakt-MP3.NET - Highly recommended.

PLUS: After the Walter Meego show at Pianos, I'm going to be a Guest DJ at tonight's Night Time, the bi-weekly party thrown by Dave P, of Fixed, the illustrious Justine D of Motherf*cker, and Tim Sweeney, of Beats In Space. The party is at Don Hill's, on Greenwich at Spring street, here in the dirty city, and will be a hell of a good time. I'll be there around midnight, rocking this kind of shit. In fact, I'll almost certainly play this song. Zap!
