And We Won't Love You Anymore
Ethan Rose - song 2.
Sometimes we just need to let things be.
Sometimes we're in such a hurry to say the right thing -- to say anything really -- that we end up spoiling the moment, or screwing the future. Sometimes we need to just let the negative spaces exist for what they are, and see the world for its holes. And when I say we, I mean me, obviously.
A song like Ethan Rose's song 2 (which is two of three, incidentally), reminds me of a sculpture. It's like they always say about how a sculpture was inside the rock all along, and the sculptor just released it from the stone. That's how I feel about this song -- it was already existing in the world, and Ethan just had to release it, to document it. I mean, I call it a song but really it's the sound of a room full of love breathing. It's the sound of the world taking a well-deserved nap. It's the sound of a cozy, early morning drive home in a quiet snow storm and any other number of things. It's the sound of relaxing beauty.
I met Ethan Rose on the roof of a parking garage. Not long after, I would become quite sick, with a fever of 104. Ethan had nothing to do with the fever, but perhaps if I'd been in a better state I wouldn't have waited this long to post from his album. The vinyl version of Ceiling Songs came out in 2005. I can be granted leeway, however, because the CD version is just now being released. You will soon be able to buy the CD, but until then you'll have to be satisfied with gorgeous 180 gram vinyl.
