Hump day
Gregor Tresher - Full Range Madness
Sometimes, a Wednesday can feel like your week is stretching out ahead of you for miles and miles - not a good feeling. Other times, a Wednesday can feel like your week is almost over. Today started out feeling like the former, but thankfully, especially now that it is nearly over, it became one of the latter in a hurry.
One of the things I did to pass the day was check out this new compilation F, released by Frankfurt Germany's Cocoon Recordings. It is, as you might guess, the sixth in their alphabetically-named annual series (much like Kompakt's Total series) that profiles the label and its work, and in this year's case, it is a real stunner.
Cocoon was started by the ultra-prolific DJ and producer Sven Väth in 2000, and the label has managed to achieve a cult following, largely due to top-notch producers releasing work on the label, including Legowelt, Anthony Rother, Zombie Nation and Roman Flügel (of Alter Ego fame) among others. They've also been running a number of popular club-nights in Frankfurt, Berlin and Ibiza.
I had a hard time picking a song from this compilation - the tracks by Pier Bucci, Guido Schneider, Johannes Heil, Alex Smoke and Matthew Jonson are all fantastic - but I decided to go with this track by Gregor Tresher. I don't know much about him, besides my assumption that he's German, and that he's put out a handful of 12"s and EPs on good labels, like Anthony Rother's Datapunk. What I do know is that this is essentially a peak-time, big-room electro-house track, with a buzzy bassline and fun swirly synths - I'm pretty sure this would go over well at 3am (and I'll have to try it at my next gig).
Anyway, the whole F compilation is solid and worth looking into - it is even available as a 6 (yes six) piece vinyl-set. Here in the US, you can get it from our friends at Forced Exposure, or you can buy (and possibly even download) it direct from Cocoon in their online store.
Enjoy!
