3 day weekend

The Go! Team - Bull In The Heather

Fridays are great when you don't have to go to work. Take next Friday off if you can, and you'll see what I mean.

So, you may remember The Go! Team from seeing them here on MFR almost two years ago - their first album Thunder, Lightning, Strike came out on UK label, Memphis Industries, to much praise on the blogs and indie music press, which led to the album getting a US domestic release on Columbia Records.

The band has been busy in the last year or so, what with touring like crazy and recording new material, and this song comes straight to you as a little slice of bonus material-heaven. When I told robot Mark about this he said it was "way up there on the unexpected surprises" list - I know, right? I thought the same thing. Hopefully you know the original song, a few minutes of noisy pop from Sonic Youth's 1994 Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star album, complete with a popular video that made it into heavy rotation on 120 Minutes. Ah, those were the days...

Anyway, this cover does the original song justice, and in a lot of ways turns it into a better song - SY fans, try not to hate me for saying that (however, I know the song, and the album it came off of, is a pretty contentious thing to begin with, but I think you'll still appreciate this cover for what it is: a loving tribute). If you don't have it already, get your hands on Thunder, Lightning, Strike via our friends at Insound, or download it from iTunes. Also hit up the band's Myspace page for news, videos, and other foolery.

Happy weekend!

PS: Shouts go out to my friends Hillary and Chase for helping us rock it last night - Hill, it was great to see you after such a long time - we had quite a night, thanks to the both of you.

I saw The Go! Team at Lollapalooza two weeks ago. It was one of the best non-sexual hours of my whole life. They had a huge crowd and they gave it their all, it was a great time. Come to think of it, they probably try just as hard when they have a crowd of 100 people, that's why they are (and will continue to be) great.

One of the best concerts I have ever been to. They even had the chin-strokin' hipsters pogoing like mad!

Thanks for posting this!

I was doing a work experience at sony in summer 2004 when 300 promotional copies of "thunder lightning strike" got whacked on my desk; cue long term love affair.

The link to the mp3 doesn't appear to be working.
