Outputmessge - Glintz

I've been sitting on this one for what feels like ages now, and now that it has come out, I can finally get something up here on the site for it. The 'it' being Nebulae, the awesome second full-length album by Outputmessage.

Outputmessage is the production alias of Bernard Farley - you may already know his work via releases on Ann Arbor's Ghostly International, including his remix of Dabrye, and the inclusion of the track "Bernard's Song" on the label's 2003 compilation Idol Tryouts Vol. 1 and "Sommeil" on this year's Vol. 2. Now Nebulae is finally available, thanks to Manchester's Melodic - they released it in the UK earlier on this Summer, but it is finally available here in the US as of this week.

His work draws inspiration from the pools of Detroit electro and techno, drum 'n bass, delicate synthy 90s-era WARP-style IDM - all forms that are familiar, but Farley manages, like the best electronic producers, to keep it all sounding fresh and new. The album as a whole is a wonderful listen, and with just ten tracks, doesn't feel over-long and sprawling like so many albums of the genre can be. It also feels like a real album, not just a collection of singles with filler. It makes for more great post-summertime listening, and will likely end up on a lot of the electronic cognoscenti best-of lists.

You can order the album direct from the label here, or you can buy it in digital form via WARP's BLEEP store, or from iTunes - definitely recommended listening.

PS: Tonight, you NYC kids will want to check out MSTRKRFT, who will be peeling the paint off the walls at Don Hill's tonight - they're the guest DJs at my friends party Night Time - it ain't free, but will be well worth the few bucks to get in. Be there. I will be.
