This is not goodbye
Junior Boys - In The Morning (featuring Andi Toma)
I'll tell you what, I've been waiting on this one for a while, so thank you Jeremy Greenspan (the man behind the name) for making it worth it.
I'll gladly admit that I'm a Junior Boys fan - I heard their song "High Comedown" back in the beginning of 2004 and had to hear more - I knew I was hooked then. Their first full-length record, Last Exit, came that same summer, and is fantastic. A must for electronic and pop music fans. Put it on the next time you're hung-over, drinking your coffee and thinking about what to do for brunch - it is totally soothing and delicate, yet has enough bounce (a la Timbaland) to it to make you feel good about the party you were at the night before. It is like aural eggs, toast, bacon and coffee.
So here we are, fully two years later, and the new record, So This Is Goodbye is as good as I could have hoped. More subtle than its predecessor, if that is possible, but just as beautiful, both lyrically and sonically. It seems like everyone is saying how much like Violator-era Depeche Mode the record is. This is almost certainly true, but if anything, it is Violator without so many guitars, so it is more like Speak & Spell DM, with more edge to it (does that make it is more like Yaz than DM?).
Anyway, just wait for the bridge section - around the three-minute mark - that synthesizer sound right there? PERFECT. That is actually one of the things about Junior Boys music that you will either love or hate: everything feels like it is in the right place, all timed, tweaked and toned to perfection. So This Is Goodbye just came out this last Tuesday here in the US on Domino Records, so it is now available pretty much everywhere - hit up our friends at Insound or your favorite indie retailer, or download from iTunes today.
Junior Boys will be on tour for the rest of September and much of October, so check their live page for dates and details. Oh, and also for you tech-house nerds, there is also a single for this song that features a remix by Alex Smoke, and "The Equalizer" with a Morgan Geist remix - so solid!
PS: This new Junior Boys record is a great companion album to Unai's A Love Moderne, which I told you guys about back in May - it is also available from Insound or iTunes.
