Risky

Menomena - Wet and Rusting.

Today is the first overcast day in what feels like months. It's kind of amazing. Los Angeles is anything but cozy most of the time, though a few days come close. My coworkers find this perfect weather for the new Joanna Newsom (full disclosure: my day job is involved in her publicity), but perhaps I've heard it too many times. I'm more in the mood for Menomena - a band of which I never seem to tire.

Of course the focus of any good Menomena song is the drums. But wait - this time around I find myself drawn to the acoustic guitar. The drums only flutter in and out at key moments, but the guitar is a backbone. I love it.

It comes from their new single, which you can preorder here. After that, it'll be on their upcoming Barsuk record "Friend and Foe," which I'm kind of excited about. After that, they're going on a east coast tour, and finally a west coast one (finally!). You can track all this stuff over at their myspace page. Do it. I dare you.

I'm really glad Menomena's finally putting out a proper follow-up to "Blame Monster." I love that record!

Future's looking bright for these guys. If their second album is anywhere near as good as the first I'll be set.

I cannot wait for the new Menomena album. Their first album has been on repeat for a year now.
