Songs like this are one of the best reasons this website exists. I don't mean wild, fun, crazy dance-y techno songs, though they are one of the things I have a passion for. What I mean has more to do with the back-story for this.

See, months ago, this guy Sam - living in Vancouver, Canada - contacted me about a particular song I'd included in a mix that posted some time before. We kept up an occasional email and IM conversation about music (dance or otherwise), but also about the power of the internet for spreading information and ideas, and the feasibility of starting up an online magazine & music label.

This song is part of the result of those conversations. Dominic Fabrig is Sam's cohort in the magazine- and label-project, based in Alberta, Canada. The project is called Citystarfleet, and although it is in its infancy, having been conceived just about a year ago, they're off to a great start. What with the ease of use of Myspace (despite the hideous, always-cluttered look of it), they've got a page up, with a promise of the actual Citystarfleet website forthcoming.

Dominic is working on an album now that should see release by this next Spring, as well as a promise of a single or two to come, and this song is "something of a warm up track for him" according to Sam - if this is a warm-up, I can't wait to hear more of his work. He clearly has command of his synths, and knows a thing or two about what is hot these days. It definitely works for me, and I think a lot of you will enjoy it as well. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more on this, as I'm sure it will be an interesting project to keep following.
