It's Good to be Aware

Lewis & ClarkeLewis & Clarke - Before it Beaks You (live on WPRB)

It's finally cooling off here in Los Angeles. The air is a little crisp. The wind picks up a bit. The fires in Ventura County make for some depressingly beautiful sunsets. It's time to break out some Lewis & Clarke. Thankfully, this new crop of live material - recorded this summer in Philadelphia. It's one heck of a session -- with four strong tracks. This one - Before it Breaks You - is my favorite, and also happens to be the longest. It stretches out for a solid 10 minutes, before it fades out into drone. It's wonderful - and the boys in the band really get to explore each nook and cranny of the melody with their guitars and banjos.

This is the type of song that lets ten minutes go by so quickly, as the song builds and erupts in tiny acoustic crescendos. I found myself putting these songs on at work each day, and while it took a few spins to really sink in - eventually they've found their way into my solid rotation. A fine band.

You can download the remaining tracks from the session at Lewis & Clarkes' audio page. However, I will highly recommend picking up the 12" vinyl version. It should also be noted that the session was recorded by WPRB's Jon Solomon.
