Nite Versions = rad
So last night's Soulwax Nite Versions party was totally off the hook.
See, Nite Versions is the 'live performance' version of Soulwax; Soulwax is the production version of 2manyDJs, and '2manyDJs' is the brothers Dewaele, Stephen and David. They've been DJ-ing and producing music for about a decade, and Nite Versions is their latest in a long line of musical adventures that bring rock and roll and electronic dance music together. Nite Versions is, in essence, an album of re-interpretations and remixes of their 2004 album, Any Minute Now that can be (and are) played live.
Nite Versions - the band - is the Dewaele brothers with their friends Stefaan Van Leuven and Steve Slingeneyer. They have been playing the album live since last fall - it was released in Europe on PIAS last September, but us American fans have had to pay import prices to get our grubby mitts on it. Until now. Thanks to our friends at Modular Records, Nite Versions is available literally everywhere you can buy music. Go get it, right now. Seriously, it is an amazing record.
The video above is the closing song "Another Excuse" from the album, and was the closing song from their amazing set last night at Studio B. The place was absolutely packed - I heard there were a thousand people there - which made me really happy to see that many dance-music fans out to party. Much gratitude goes out to JDH and Dave P, and Modular, for bringing the Soulwax tour to the US, and to the bands for playing. Plus, after the Nite Versions set, the Dewaele brothers did an amazing 2manyDJs set till they shut down the club! Unbelievable.
PS: You can still catch another show today at the Ultrafest here in New York, and there's a 2manyDJs set down in Baltimore tomorrow - see JP's post from a couple days ago for details!
