Oh yeah you talk too much!

the awkward stage

I don't know what's caused this trend of taking pop styles from the fifties and sixties and making them relevant again - The Pipettes, etc. - but I think it's fantastic.

The God Damn Doo Wop Band - Talk Too Much.

I thought I was going to one of the first bloggers to give these kids some love, but I should have known I was beaten to the punch - by my buddy Toby over at Lunch of Champions, and by Fluxblog. Ah, it's just as well. The God Damn Doo Wop Band's first record, Broken Hearts, deserves all the credit it can possibly get. As you can hear, it's full of energy, that great, joyous energy that only comes through if the band really gives a shit. Between bands like this and The Go! Team, who knew giving a shit was so sorely missed? That the band wears their hearts on their sleeves while singing doo-wop is awesome enough; the fact that they write decent songs is all the more remarkable. Forget giving a shit, who knew doo-wop was so sorely missed?

You can order Broken Hearts from the great Afternoon Records (also home to One For The Team, who I wrote about a few months ago). You won't be sorry.

Hey, Dave!
While I might be the first to write a review, your writing will always take first place in my heart.
