Sunday music
Just a quickie for today, but I've been listening to the new EP by the Fields a whole lot lately, and I think it is worth a mention here on a quiet, lazy Sunday afternoon.
Fields are five friends from London: Nick Peill (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboards), Thorunn Antonia (Vocals/Keyboards), Henry Spenner (Drums/Vocals), Matty Derham (Bass/Keyboards/Vocals) and Jamie Putnam (Guitar). They make beautiful music together that reference 90s brit-pop, current large-band Canadian pop (ie BSS or Arcade Fire), and classic British folk. There's a near-perfect combination of twang and fuzz to the guitars that gave me the chills the first time through their record, titled 7 From The Village (yes, they also put out an EP called 4 From The Village earlier this summer in the UK, so this is an expansion of that record EP for the US). It is indie-pop that's so loaded with talent they're likely to win a lot of American fans and be pretty successful.
7 Songs From The Village is out now on the band's own Black Lab label. You can download the mini-album from our friends at eMusic or from iTunes, order it from our friends at Insound, or purchase it from your favorite indie retailer.
They're playing here in NYC in a couple of weeks - October 2nd - at the Mercury Lounge, so you should come check out the show with me. You can watch the crazy (and kind of creepy) animated video for this song here. Check their Myspace page for up to date info on their tour and other goodies. Also make sure to have a look around for the surprisingly understated and totally brilliant Ewan Pearson remix of this song. It is really something.
